John Jay Students Visit the South Bronx

Students in SUS 200: Introduction to Sustainability Studies and their professor Milena Popov went this week to the South Bronx and took a tour with a community leader, Mychal Johnson. Mr. Johnson, South Bronx Unite community organization’s co-founder, showed and discussed various problems his community is facing, such as high asthma rates due to the enormous amount of diesel truck pollution, presence of various waste facilities and CSOs, as well as lack of green spaces. South Bronx Unite’s representatives recently met with the mayor Bill de Blasio to discuss the environmental and health crisis in the South Bronx: http://www.capitalnewyork.com/article/city-hall/2015/11/8582369/de-blasio-mark-viverito-meet-foes-freshdirect. For more information regarding the South Bronx Unite, visit: www.southbronxunite.com.
