DESCRIPTION:“Politics of knowledge and care in marine conservation conflicts in Indonesia and the North Atlantic” \nDr. Annet Pauwelussen is assistant professor with the Environmental Policy Group of Wageningen University. Her research focuses on marine (coral and oyster reef) restoration\, with a special interest in contestation and collaboration between different ways of knowing and valuing marine nature. With a background in environmental anthropology and science and technology studies\, her work combines critical social theory with multi-sited ethnography of human-ocean relations in Southeast Asia and trans-Atlantic coasts. \nPlease join us for this guest lecture with Dr. Pauwelussen who will tell us about some of her research about human-ocean relationships in Indonesia. SUMMARY:Uneven Geographies - Shiva Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Uneven Geographies gathers six artworks and community projects––by Mel Chin\, Radio alHara\, Raneem Ayyad\, Save Ennore Creek Campaign\, Su Yu Hsin and Suneil Sanzgiri–– that contend with the official policies and conventions that enable political\, economic\, ecological\, and cultural dispossession. Working across India\, Jordan\, Taiwan\, Palestine\, Kashmir\, and the U.S.\, the exhibition’s artists respond to environmental and territorial struggles through spatial interventions\, sound\, sculpture\, and moving images. In doing so\, they show that geography is not merely a fixed cartography\, but an ongoing social and political process that is made and remade through everyday acts of existence and resistance. \nThe opening night will feature an interactive performance by Raneem Ayyad: “Where Do We Meet the Sun?” that invites the audience to a staged visit to an apartment in Al-Zarqa\, Jordan. Through the everyday lives of three women and a collection of ethnographic materials\, the piece explores natural light as a medium of regulation\, gender discrimination\, and illness enforced by architecture and urban planning.
