DATE CHANGE: Brown bag lunch talk on eco-aesthetics

Art Professor Milena Popov will discuss the intersection of art and ecology at our kick-off brown bag lunch for the fall semester on October 14, 2014, at 1:40 p.m. at John Jay College (Manhattan) in room 7.63.41 NB (in the English Department).  Bring your own lunch and join fellow students, environmental scholars, and activists in learning more about this exciting field.

This presentation will define eco-aesthetics and glance over the spectrum of art and design that follows the principle of eco-aesthetics, from Eco Art and design to ecouture, green architecture, and eco urban planning. Since Prof. Popov is developing a course called Eco Art and Design, in this lecture she will present different types of Eco Art (from subtle ephemeral sculptures to large bioremedial artworks) and their difference from Environmental Art.  Through showcasing a few different artist (and artworks), design products, architectural designs, and ‘green’ industries, she will analyze creative approaches, meanings, and impacts,  including popular quasi eco design.
