“Extreme Whether”: A play about the future of our planet

October 2, 2014 - October 26, 2014

SEJ faculty member, and adjunct instructor in the Communications & Theater Arts Department, Karen Malpede wrote and directs Extreme Whether, which hits the stage in NYC this fall (October 2-26, 2014).

ExtremePosterExtreme Whether dramatizes the controversy over climate change but evolves into a reverie about the sublime in nature. The play couches this battle within a single American family, set in the present at this critical point of ecological crisis.

A major climate scientist, an Arctic scientist, an energy industry publicist, and a lobbyist may share family ties, but disagree intensely on the fate of our planet, while other family members take even more extreme measures to sabotage environmental abusers.

The October 16, 2014 performance will feature an opening talk by Dr. Jerry Markowitz, SEJ faculty, who will discuss the relationship of industry to science as part of the Festival of Conscience that accompanies the performances of the play.
