NICK BRANDT: Book Reading

Nick Brandt’s East African trilogy documented the effects of climate change and ceaseless upheaval on a wracked landscape and dwindling wildlife. With Inherit the Dust, his first book since the final volume in the trilogy, he returns to the ravaged landscape and creates panoramic vistas in which life size panels of his animal portraits are placed within scenes of environmental devastation. Reviving the images of long-dead elephants, zebras, and giraffes within the fraught context of ongoing life, Brandt investigates the irrecoverable memories that haunt the plains.
