NYC Climate Justice Youth Summit
August 6, 2015
The CJYS is the largest gathering of young people of color on climate change in NYC. Last year more than 750 young adults came to the event and were later mobilized to be part of the frontline at the People’s Climate March, the largest climate march in history.
We have partnered with community-based organizations throughout the city and the Climate Justice Alliance to support the Summer of Our Power: a campaign focused on transitioning frontline communities (low income communities of color) to become climate adaptable.
Our goals for the Summit include the following:
- Understanding core concepts of climate and ecological science
- Grounding in biological and cultural diversity as well as tradition and ancestry
- Real Solutions and False Promises to the ecological crisis
- Just Transition framework and strategies
- Tools on how to operationalize Just Transitions
Additionally, we will have our infamous Justice Concert with a fantastic political artist/activist, great prizes, and plenty of giveaways. So we want you to come, enjoy the food, and learn more about Climate Justice and its importance to our communities.
